Our Spanish program is a FLEX program; which is world language learning through exploration. Our goals are to develop an interest in the language, learn basic words and phrases, develop careful listening skills, develop cultural awareness, as well as linguistic awareness.

Students will create Duolingo accounts and complete 100-150 points reviewing basic grammar points and vocabulary Students will collaborate with classmates to build fluency asking and answering questions in Spanish. Students will participate in Spanish only classroom activities to build confidence speaking and listening to the language. Students will engage in Total Physical Response activities to teach them new vocabulary in the target language. Students will write, read, and perform Rimas (Rhymes) to build fluency and pronunciation competence. Students will use trial and error writing exercises to help them assess their strengths and areas of growth when sounding out and spelling new and unfamiliar vocabulary Students will review basics vocabulary to refresh previously learned words, and continue building a foundation of Spanish vocabulary knowledge Students will use Quizlet review activities and previously learned vocabulary (numbers 1-100, colors, days of the week, classroom questions, and school supplies) Students will complete Avancemos textbook activities to review sentence writing and grammar activities. Students will create a Hispanic Heritage poster, and participate in classroom discussions about famous Latinos, in a celebration of Hispanic Heritage month Students will create maps to review Spanish-speaking countries Complete 10 Duolingo lessons online, hearing, speaking, and writing Spanish to build basic skills. Students will review basics vocabulary to refresh previously learned words, and continue building a foundation of Spanish vocabulary knowledge, using Duolingo and Quizlet online activities. Students will complete Avancemos textbook activities to review sentence writing and grammar. Students will create a biography web for a Mujer Revolucionaria (Revolutionary Woman), researching a famous Latina in honor of Hispanic Heritage month. Please see link for more information about the project. Students will research the life accomplishments, struggles and successes of their Mujer Revolucionaria. Students will write original sentences in Spanish describing her life. Students will discuss each woman in a culmination celebration of Mujeres Revolucionarias, sharing their research with the class. |
